FXFlat review 2026: BaFin-regulated German broker renamed Trading 212 EU GmbH in 2026
FXFlat is a Ratingen, Germany-based proprietary-platform multi-asset broker founded in 1997 and renamed Trading 212 EU GmbH in 2026. Licensed by BaFin under ID 10109603, it now trades on the Trading 212 platform with Invest and CFD accounts. It serves retail clients across 180+ forex pairs, equities, ETFs, indices, commodities, bonds, and other instruments.

What is FXFlat?
FXFlat is the former German brokerage brand whose regulated entity now operates as Trading 212 EU GmbH. The business traces its operating history to 1997 and remains based in Ratingen, Germany. Trading 212 Group acquired FXFlat Bank GmbH before the entity moved into the Trading 212 operating structure. The original FXFlat website now redirects visitors to Trading 212's German platform.
The legal transition became formal in 2026. European regulatory records show FXFlat Bank AG as the previous name and Trading 212 EU GmbH from 20 February 2026. The current registered address is Bahnstraße 47, 40878 Ratingen. This means readers researching FXFlat today are effectively researching the German Trading 212 entity rather than a separate FXFlat trading platform.
Which regulators license FXFlat?
FXFlat's current legal successor is supervised by BaFin (German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority). BaFin's company database listed Trading 212 EU GmbH as an active German investment firm under BaFin ID 10109603 on 18 September 2026. The register also lists securities services, foreign-exchange transactions, portfolio management, and custody-related permissions under German law.
German client protection combines segregation rules with statutory compensation arrangements. Trading 212 EU GmbH states that client assets remain separate from company assets. Eligible claims can fall under the Entschädigungseinrichtung der Wertpapierhandelsunternehmen, or EdW, which covers 90% of eligible claims up to €20,000. Uninvested cash held at eligible German partner banks can receive deposit protection up to €100,000 per person, per bank.

BaFin issued a separate warning on 1 February 2024 concerning the website fx-flat.com. The authority stated that this site was not operated by FXFlat Bank GmbH and described the case as identity theft (source: BaFin warning, 1 February 2024). The legitimate historical domain is fxflat.com without the extra hyphen.
Trading platforms
Trading platforms now center on the proprietary Trading 212 interface rather than FXFlat's former platform range. The current German service uses Trading 212 through web and mobile interfaces. The platform supports both investing and leveraged CFD activity within separate account environments. The historical FXFlat MetaTrader offering is no longer the current setup described by the successor entity.
MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 are therefore not part of the present FXFlat configuration covered in this review. The current interface includes charting, order entry, account management, and instrument search within one system. Practice mode provides unlimited free access using virtual funds, which separates simulated orders from real-money activity.
Account types
Account types currently divide the service into Invest and CFD (Contract for Difference) accounts. These structures serve different purposes and should not be treated as interchangeable. Invest accounts provide ownership of eligible shares and exchange-traded funds. CFD accounts provide price exposure without ownership of the underlying asset.
Invest account
The Invest account is the ownership-based side of the platform. It supports stocks and ETFs rather than leveraged forex trading. The current public API is also limited to Invest and certain related investment accounts. Forex pairs can appear for viewing while remaining unavailable for execution inside Invest.
CFD account
The CFD account is the relevant structure for forex trading. CFDs track price movements without transferring ownership of the underlying market. The account supports long and short positions, leverage, currency pairs, indices, commodities, stocks, and ETFs. Retail applicants also complete an appropriateness assessment covering finances, knowledge, experience, and investment objectives.
Minimum deposit
Minimum deposit requirements depend on account type and jurisdiction. For the German CFD configuration covered in this FXFlat review, the minimum is €10. Trading 212's current help material states that minimum deposits can vary by region and account structure. The amount shown during onboarding therefore remains the operational figure for a particular client.
A low entry amount does not change the risk mechanics of leveraged trading. A €10 deposit can support only limited exposure before margin requirements become restrictive. Position sizing, spread costs, and market movement still determine how quickly available equity changes.
Deposit and withdrawal methods
Deposit and withdrawal methods include bank transfer, card funding, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and other supported payment rails. Availability depends on the client entity, country, and account type. Standard bank transfers can take several business days, while certain supported digital methods can credit more quickly.
Trading 212 states that bank transfers and eligible instant bank transfers remain free on its current platform. Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and selected alternative deposits are free until the cumulative threshold reaches €2,000. A 0.7% funding fee can apply above that threshold for affected payment methods. CFD deposits are listed separately as fee-free.
Withdrawals can take up to three business days after processing. Payment-method verification can also affect which withdrawal destination is available. This creates an operational distinction between depositing quickly and withdrawing to a previously verified funding source.
Tradeable instruments
Tradeable instruments extend beyond forex into several CFD and investment categories. The current platform lists more than 180 forex pairs, covering major, minor, and exotic combinations. Forex markets operate through the CFD account rather than through Invest.
Forex
Forex instruments include pairs such as EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY, and less-traded crosses. A pip is the standard unit used to measure many currency-price changes. Trading 212 states that its forex CFD list exceeds 180 pairs and is generally available 24 hours a day during the five-day trading week.
Other CFDs and investments
The CFD account also covers stocks, stock indices, commodities, ETFs, and eligible crypto-linked CFDs. The Invest account instead provides ownership of stocks and ETFs. Product availability can differ by jurisdiction, so the instrument list visible inside the German entity is the relevant list for German clients.
Spread and commission structure
Spread and commission structure relies mainly on floating CFD pricing rather than a fixed spread schedule. A spread is the gap between the bid and ask price. FXFlat therefore lists spreads as floating. Actual spreads can change with liquidity, volatility, trading session, and the underlying instrument.
Trading 212 states that CFD trades carry no separate dealing commission. The broker instead earns from the CFD spread and overnight financing. A 0.5% foreign-exchange fee applies to realized CFD results when the instrument currency differs from the account currency. Overnight interest can also apply when leveraged positions remain open beyond the trading day.
Leverage and margin requirements
Leverage and margin requirements follow European retail limits for the German entity. Maximum retail forex leverage is 1:30 on major currency pairs. Leverage means controlling a larger market position with a smaller amount of account equity. The corresponding margin requirement for 1:30 leverage is approximately 3.33% of position value.
Other instrument classes use lower leverage limits. Minor forex pairs generally use lower leverage than major pairs, while stocks and some other CFD products require substantially more margin. Professional classification can provide higher ratios, but it also changes the protection framework and eligibility requirements.
The platform applies an automatic stop-out, meaning forced position closure when margin falls too far. Current Trading 212 documentation states that liquidation begins when the margin level reaches 25% or below. The system targets restoration toward roughly 30% after applying its buffer.
Mobile app and trading experience
Mobile app access forms the main current trading experience for the successor platform. Trading 212 provides native mobile access alongside its web interface. The same account structure covers portfolio monitoring, deposits, withdrawals, trading, practice mode, and account settings.
Practice mode provides unlimited simulated access with virtual funds up to $50,000. This separates platform familiarization from funded trading. The public API adds another access layer, but the current API is restricted to Invest and Stocks ISA environments. It does not provide equivalent automation access for CFD trading.
Customer support is available through chat and email on the current platform. The German website states that support operates around the clock. The contact structure now belongs to Trading 212 rather than the former standalone FXFlat service desk.
Fees beyond the spread
Fees beyond the spread depend on funding method, currency conversion, and position duration. CFD trades have no separate commission, but overnight financing applies to positions held beyond the trading day. The amount varies by instrument and direction.
The CFD foreign-exchange fee is 0.5% when realized profit or loss requires conversion into the account currency. Invest accounts use a different currency-conversion fee structure. Funding charges can also apply after the cumulative free threshold for certain cards and digital wallets.
One less obvious rule applies to inactive German CFD cash balances. Trading 212 states that Trading 212 EU CFD accounts with no trading activity for 30 days can have their remaining cash refunded to the original payment method. Holding an open position or pending CFD order counts as trading activity under that rule.

Should you trade with FXFlat?
FXFlat's present status is defined by its transition into Trading 212 EU GmbH. The standalone FXFlat platform no longer represents the current German client experience. BaFin supervision remains in place under ID 10109603, while the operating interface and account structure now come from Trading 212.
The current setup preserves regulated German access to forex CFDs, Invest accounts, segregated client assets, and retail negative-balance protection. It also changes what former FXFlat users encounter. MT4 and MT5 are absent from the current configuration, while the proprietary Trading 212 system becomes the primary platform.
The principal trade-off is therefore structural rather than regulatory. Traders researching the historical FXFlat platform should distinguish it from the successor service available in 2026. The current profile combines BaFin oversight, 1:30 retail forex leverage, floating spreads, more than 180 forex pairs, and the Trading 212 account model.
